General Operating Information
1. Attendance
Students will have some options as to in which classes they may be enrolled. By enrolling in a class, the student is taking a spot that is no longer available. It is the student’s responsibility to attend every class. If for any reason the student will not be able to attend, we request parents notify The SAC by noon of the day absent. This is a performance-based program; all classes are important, and good attendance is expected. A series of unexcused absences could result in the student being removed from a class or show.
2. Emergency Procedure/Safety Measures
In the case of an emergency with ample time to take cover, students will be escorted to the Bald Knob Schools Safe Room. If it is unsafe to leave the building, everyone at The SAC will be moved to the center of the building until deemed safe to leave. Students will remain at the Safe Room or The SAC unless a parent or guardian collects them. Every effort will be made to maintain communication with parents through the phone, email, and internet. Information about students’ security and location can be obtained by calling LaDonna Gibson at 901-603-6744, Cale McGillvray at 501-454-3009, or Bradi Roberts at 501-259-9511. If your child takes a prescription medication that they may need during an emergency situation, a dosage may be provided to The Studio to hold for such an instance..
3. Weather
If inclement weather is forecast during the regular school hours, The SAC reserves the right to cancel the program for that day.
4. Discipline Procedure
Three infractions will result in dismissal from The SAC. Infractions are but not limited to the following:
- Disrespect toward anyone
- Inappropriate language
- Fighting
- Any other behavior deemed inappropriate
A written notice may be given each time an infraction has occurred. This notice must be signed by a parent or guardian and returned the following day after receiving the infraction.
5. Student Performances and Exhibits
The Studio Arts Center values the sense of pride and recognition students gain when they share their talents and hard work with the community. The last week of each semester is Student Showcase Week, dedicated to providing our artists with the opportunity to “showcase” their talents. Each semester will vary according to classes offered. More information will be sent home as plans are made.
6. Use of Instruments
Students registering for strings, guitar, and/or jazz Instruction will be assigned an instrument (minimal and mostly rhythm section instruments for jazz). Instruments are to be used only by those assigned to them. The student is responsible for their assigned instrument. Instruments may not be loaned to another student under any circumstance. Unless consent from a staff person is given, no instrument is to be taken out of The SAC. Permission to take an instrument off the premises can only be granted by a staff person upon completion of an instrument loan agreement. This agreement must be completed by a parent/guardian and returned to a member of The SAC staff.
7. Use of Rooms and Materials
All rooms and materials of each room are off limits to those not registered for a class taught in such a room. Individual teachers may give special permission in some cases.
8. Reporting Harassment
The Studio Arts Center does not tolerate harassment of any kind. Any student who feels that he or she is being bullied, teased, taunted, discriminated against, or sexually harassed (verbally or physically) should immediately report the incident to a staff person. The SAC will take immediate steps to investigate the situation and stop the harassment.
9. Parent/Guardian Responsibility
It is the vision of The Studio Arts Center that everyone who walks in the door will be actively involved in our mission. We see The SAC as a place where we all support the children and youth of our community and demonstrate that support by participating in strengthening the program in a number of ways. In addition, we serve as role models for how to use leisure time in a productive, constructive, relaxing, expressive way.
We strongly encourage parents to attend all performances. We also encourage parents to make every effort to have your child attend classes regularly and avoid early checkouts. All classes are important, and all students are equally important.
